India won the five-match Oval Test series by saving six runs. Interestingly, the fifth match of the five-match series went down to the fifth day. On the fifth day of the IND vs ENG Test Series, England needed 35 more runs to reach the second-highest run chase in the format, where India needed 4 wickets. This took England closer to their victory.
England began the inning positively, Harry Brook and Joe Root made centuries, hitting runs over runs, boundaries over boundaries, and left just 35 runs needed. But, at the very final moment, Mohammed Siraj emerged as the game changer.
When England was just close enough to win, the match took a major turn. The batting order collapsed; they had scored 374, needed 35, and still had four wickets in hand. Siraj struck twice in his first two overs before taking up the final wicket. England lost the game by just six runs short. Siraj took three wickets, while Prasidh Krishna claimed 1. With this, the five-match Test series ended in a 2–2 draw.
Siraj’s Heroics Seal
In the morning of the finale, when everyone was nervous and tensed, with England needing just 65 runs and India desperate for breakthroughs, India’s fast bowler, Mohammed Siraj’s heroic performance not only ripped through the hosts’ batting, but surpassed the record of legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev to become India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Tests on the pich of English, the first is Jasprit Bumrah – 51 wickets, and Ishant Sharma – 51 wickets. Sijar has taken 44, including the recent ones.
On the 5th day of the match, the 31-year-old fast bowler Mohammed Siraj served a yorker at Atkinson, in the 86th over of England’s innings, and bowled him down, winning a memorable win for India. He fired a 143kph yorker to Gus Atkinson, the fifth fastest delivery in the series. And then the moment unfolded, the intensity, suspense, and roaring crowd made it a spectacle to remember.
The pair of Siraj and Prasidh Krishna cleaned up the English team from 301 for 3 to 367 all out. Siraj delivered a match-winning spell of 5 for 104, including three wickets on the final day, while Prasidh took 4 for 126.
